Social-emotional skills course for 1st and 2nd graders

A 10-session group course that builds children's emotional awareness, empathy and communication through art, movement, mindfulness and outdoor activities.

Welcome to our social-emotional skills course for 1st and 2nd graders

In these crucial early years, children are not just learning to read and write. They are also learning how to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships and navigate the social world around them. Our 10-session course is designed specifically to support 1st and 2nd graders in developing these essential social-emotional skills.

Course goals

  • Emotional awareness: helping children recognise and name their emotions, understand how they feel, and learn ways to express them appropriately.
  • Empathy and compassion: teaching kids to understand and share the feelings of others, fostering kindness and respect in their interactions.
  • Effective communication: guiding students to express themselves clearly and listen to others, building strong and positive connections with peers.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution: giving children the tools to handle disagreements and challenges constructively and peacefully.
  • Self-regulation: helping kids learn to manage their emotions and behaviour in ways that are healthy and fit different situations.

Why it matters
